Sunburst Foundation, Inc. was established to provide funds to minority students who will pursue a bachelor’s degree, with a major in the physical sciences, at an accredited college. The physical sciences are defined as engineering, computer science, chemistry, physics, biology, botany, mathematics, oceanography, geology, pre-dental, pre-medical, pre-veterinary, nursing, astronomy, ecological sciences, pharmacy or zoological majors.

Applicants must be current high-school seniors and must demonstrate financial need. The Foundation focuses primarily on providing scholarships to assist African-American students. Other minority students are welcome to apply; however, African-American applicants will receive preference in the awarding of scholarships. All applicants must be United States citizens or must show proof of immigration status that permits study in the United States. Each applicant’s academic record and test scores must indicate the ability to perform at the college level consistent with minimum academic standards.

The procedure for applying for a Sunburst scholarship depends upon the applicant’s high school, as described below.
